About Us
The Nevada Association of Student Trustees was founded on a basic principal: that students, as the main stakeholder in education, deserve to share educational governance in a meaningful way. Students are the only ones that are in the classroom in the morning and the board room in the afternoon, understanding how board policies effect students and staff in ways that adult trustees may not.

The importance of student representation goes beyond the board room. When students see their interests being represented and heard, they feel more engaged in their school and community. In a time where youth feel so disassociated with their government and civics, having a voice to advocate for them can serve to be invaluable to developing civically engaged young adults.
Student representation fosters a sense of belonging, responsibility, and empowerment, allowing students to be active participants in shaping their education. When students are given a seat at the table, they gain firsthand experience in leadership, policy-making, and collaboration—skills that extend far beyond their time in school.
At NAST, we believe that student voices should not just be acknowledged but actively included in decision-making processes. By advocating for meaningful student representation on school boards and other governing bodies, we are working to build a future where educational policies reflect the needs and experiences of those they impact the most—students. We strive to create lasting change that empowers students to take ownership of their education, ensuring a more equitable and student-centered system for generations to come.

Student trustees, also known as student members or student representatives, are students that serve on local or statewide educational authorities. This includes local boards of trustees, the State Public Charter School Authority, and the State Board of Education. Their role is to bring a student perspective to decision-making processes, ensuring that policies and initiatives reflect the needs and experiences of the students they affect.
